[6] ----- Rec Center Move!!! -----
Rice community,

After years of planning, the Recreation Center staff is truly excited to be just days away from the opening of the Barbara and David Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center. This new facility, which we are proud to share with the Rice community, promises to be a state of the art, marvelous, gigantic, awesome Recreation Center. However, before we can open access to this new space, there will be a few required closures to the current facility over the next two weeks:

The current Recreation Center will be closed this Friday, September 18th, for our move into the new Barbara and David Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center. This shutdown will allow the moving company to safely transport all necessary equipment and supplies across campus while ensuring we can re-open Saturday morning, September 19th as scheduled. We anticipate most full-time staff will have limited access to phone extensions and e-mail from Friday morning, September 18th until Monday afternoon, September 21st. The main office line (x4058) will be staffed throughout the transition. Full-time staff can be reached via this extension during the move.

The administration offices will remain closed for the week of September 21st - 25th. The full-time staff will be available at their normal phone extensions. Recreational programming and open recreation will continue throughout the week, and we will have administrative staff at the Operations Desk to process membership applications and answer any Recreation Center related questions.

In addition, on Wednesday, September 23rd, the current facility will close at 5pm for an all-staff training in the new building. We will reopen Thursday, September 24th at 6am.

Finally, the current facility will close Friday, September 25th in preparation for the dedication and grand opening of the Barbara and David Gibbs Recreation and Wellness Center. At the conclusion of the ceremony (currently scheduled for 2-2:45pm), all Rice community members will be granted complimentary access into the new building until 10pm to sample new equipment, tour the facility, or sign-up for memberships.

Please note that in spite of the opening of the new building, the indoor pool that is currently utilized will remain operational from Saturday, September 26th until the 50-meter pool at the new site is completed.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation during this transition. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions-
