[7] ----- Tutor for $22/hr -----VARSITY TUTORS - we need Rice students! ($22/hr)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you enjoy tutoring? Do you want to make money on your own time? Varsity Tutors is a local Houston area private tutoring service which hires college students to tutor middle school to high school students in surrounding communities. We pay $22/hr and need MANY new tutors for this oncoming school year. If you are interested, please apply to be a tutor at: http://varsitytutors.com/tutors/new
Questions: (832)748-1733 or houston@varsitytutors.com
[8] ----- Internet, Phone and Cable Status -----As you are getting settled (or are preparing to move) into the new
North Colleges, we wanted to update you on the current status of the
telephones, networking, and cable-tv services throughout the complex.
We know that living so close to active construction can be difficult,
but we want to make sure that your technology needs are met as quickly
as possible.
Networking (wired)
-----------
The standard network activation for residential spaces on the Rice
campus includes one wired network port per pillow. For every network
faceplate that you see, the upper right port should be active and
ready for your use. Through that port, you have access to a gigabit
ethernet connection (over 200 times faster than a typical cable modem).
Networking (wireless)
-----------
The entire complex of buildings will ultimately be covered with
wireless networking. At present, all of the residential spaces
(except for the 5th floor) should have good wireless coverage. If you
find this is not the case, please let our IT Helpdesk know (contact
information below). The more specific you are about the "hole," the
faster we can improve the coverage.
The Servery and Commons areas do not currently have wireless
installed. We expect to complete a temporary installation by the end
of next week.
Telephones
-----------
The standard telephone activation for residential spaces on the Rice
campus includes a single telephone line for every residential room.
At present, all of the residential rooms should have functional
telephone outlets. The phone ports are on the upper left of the
network faceplate and have a white icon above them. Although most
students prefer to use their cellular phones, you may want to consider
using your wired phone lines to reduce cellular costs and to get
access to the free long distance that we provide.
Cable TV
-----------
Like the telephones, one cable TV port will soon be active for each of
the rooms. Unfortunately, the cable TV installation will not be
complete until next Friday (September 4th). Our vendor has been having trouble
acquiring the necessary equipment to bring the entire complex on-line.
