Owlnet is Rice's Unix computer network, which can be
used for email, course work, or even setting up your
web page. You can log into Owlnet using your username
and password from any of the workstations around campus,
such as in Will Rice's Wiener Hole or at Fondren Library.
Connecting with SSH
|
You can also log into Owlnet from your own PC or Mac,
using a SSH client. This is a program which will allow
you to connect as if you were working at one of the
Owlnet workstations by entering your username and password.
Download it from [http://software.is.rice.edu].
Once you have downloaded and installed the SSH client,
you can connect to one of Rice's servers. We recommend
using one of these servers:
forest.owlnet.rice.edu
jungle.owlnet.rice.edu

There is some information about using Pine to check
email on the [email page].
For more information about using Unix, take a look at
Rice's [Unix tutorial]. We'll have
a more concise page to help out before too long...
